5 Cozy Switch Games Perfect for a Rainy Day

Rainy days are a perfect time to curl up on the couch and catch up on some cozy gaming. I’m sharing some suggestions for the best cozy switch games to bring the sun inside your own home when it’s damp outside.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

The game that I think got us through the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. One week into lockdown, and it appeared. And, after a couple of years, it still holds up as one of the best wholesome games for Switch for any occasion. You can go back to your already established island and go through your daily chores, collect the seasonal fish, or just project your switch to your TV and let the setting lull you to sleep.

But, if you’re feeling up to it, maybe restart and start from scratch! I’m sure you wouldn’t mind owing Tom Nook some bells again. I’ve been thinking about doing the same thing now that it’s been a couple of years with the same island. It would be nice to create anew.

Untitled Goose Game

LET DUCK CHAOS REIGN! This cozy indie game lets you control a goose and bother the heck out of the town’s inhabitants. Get out that dormant gremlin energy you can’t unleash on this rainy day within this game. Manipulate objects, steal from the people to unlock doors, complete tasks, you name it!

What’s even better? You can play multiplayer locally, so your roommate, partner, or whoever is stuck in the house with you can join in on the chaos!

The simple design and structure of the game make it easy to pick up. Perfect for those with decision paralysis about what to play in their free time. Plus, who doesn’t want to play a goose who causes chaos?

Unpacking

You learn a lot about a person based on their decor. This indie game has you follow along the life of the unnamed protagonist as you move them into their room over the years. From childhood, adulthood, etc, you help unpack the owner of these items in their new place in each stage.

The storytelling of this game is a change of pace. You aren’t going through cut scenes, no dialogue, you just learn the story through their items you unpack. You learn that the protagonist is an aspiring artist, loves music, and at one point goes through a very bad breakup when you move them back into their parents’ house.

Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

We FINALLY play Zelda herself in a Zelda game. We follow her as she navigates the world without the hero against the rifts plaguing Hyrule. This cute art style brought back from the remake of Link’s Awakening is so fun. They also made the game large so it doesn’t feel like a small spinoff, but a full, complete game.

I love how it’s not just hacking and slashing like previous games. Because you are Zelda, you are using more brains and creating echoes to solve puzzles and navigate through dungeons. Yes, (spoiler alert) she can use Link’s weapons and melee attacks, but it’s very limited in how long you can use them.

Stardew Valley

Let’s end this list with the classic cozy game! Stardew Valley is a great choice for a rainy day. Just escape into your plot of farmland, raise your animals, tend to your crops, and so much more. You can also dive into the internet to find all the different guides to gain a new achievement you may not have gotten in your years playing the game.

The 8-bit style gives you the classic gamer feel, the music is adorable, and the premise is a classic management game. It’s just the perfect combination for any cozy gaming session inside. If you haven’t played it, go try it out.
